The following information needs to be filled out in complete detail so we might tailor activities and field experiences to the maximum benefit of the participant and sponsoring organization.
The Certificate Course in Railway Management is intended for railway employees and others who have been with an organization two to five years and have demonstrated a high potential for advancement and growth. They must be willing to learn and share their learning with others. Additionally, they must be computer literate at the internet and word processing levels.. The Certificate course will be given in four one-week sessions and will include both classroom and field experiences. A complete schedule can be found at www.raileducation.com. In addition, these sessions will be linked by assignments and other computer based information.
The Certificate Course was developed by the staff of the Michigan State University Railway Management Program based on an industry-wide Needs Assessment conducted in 2007. The Curriculum Team leaders are Robert E. Gallamore, Ph.D., and Steven R. Ditmeyer, MA. Dr. Gallamore was Director of The Transportation Center and Professor of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences in the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He was Deputy Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration, and was with the UPRR, AAR-TTCI, US Railway Association, and Urban Mass Transit Administration. Mr. Ditmeyer most recently was the USDOT Faculty Chair, Associate Professor of Economics, and leader of the Transportation Industry Study at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University. He was Associate Administrator for Policy and for R&D at the FRA. He was also with the BNRR, the Alaska Railroad, MK Rail, and the World Bank.
The Certificate Course has been supported and evaluated by the Curriculum Content Advisory Committee (CCAC), a group of Rail and Transportation Industry representatives specifically formed to review and make suggestions as to the content of the course. This was accomplished in three meetings held by the CCAC. The CCAC members represent all facets on the rail industry including education and training directors from four Class I railroads, two large Class IIs, shippers, the President of the ASL&RRA, the SVP and Executive Director of the AAR, the President of the AARS, two recently retired EVPs of Operations from two Class I railroads, and two academicians with years of railroad experience.
